Why I went from e-Book to Print

I’m sure I’m not the first writer who has gotten an insulting letter from an agent or editor. How about, “You have no talent, do yourself a favor and concentrate on something else.” Or this one, “Your story failed to interest me.” Pretty cold and blunt huh? Oh well it happens.
Those of us who have faith in our ability to tell a story, or give instructions to the masses, go on to self publish. In my case, my first book was an e-Book. I did it myself with a software e-Book package.
Unfortunately, e-Books have not gained the popularity that we expected they would. Some folks just like to have material in their hands that they can carry around and read. Of course they can do so with a Palm Pilot, but after a while your eyes get tired. Especially, when you stare at a monitor all day on your full time job.
During the past few years there have evolved numerous ways to get your book in print. It's easy to do. It doesn't make sense not to publish your own book if no one else will. You can get a pod book published for as little as $99.00. Your profits are slim. No editor corrects your mistakes, and if your book gets promoted, you do it yourself. But then again, most first books don't make any money anyway. However, it can be a big boon to a writers ego to have a book that they created available for friends and relatives.
That's why I decided to get my book into print. However, since I wanted a professional technical editor, interior designer, and the choice in my cover design, etc. I decided to take control, become the publisher, pay for the services I wanted, and keep whatever profits were to be gleaned from the venture. If I sell ten copies I will feel that I succeeded, even if I never recoup my money. Why? Because my family will love it, it will become an heirloom for them, and I can be proud of the craftsmanship. What better place to invest my money than in myself?

An Inspirational Book
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a great motivational book. If you haven’t read it, I suggest you do so. I found this poem in there and hung it beside my monitor. It inspires me.
